Hello world!

Posted on June 29, 2010

Welcome to the new web page. Yes, that’s me on the Turkish Steps in Sicily near Agrigento. It was a fantastic trip that included a stay in the town where I was born, Rende Calabria in southern Italy.

I am actively looking for a new location and putting together a new menu. On my Facebook page I asked everyone to vote for their favorite Rialto dish so I can decide which one’s to carry over to the new place. Your feedback is always welcome. There are many important issues to decide like, should I keep the beard? Does an Italian restaurant really have to offer ice-tea and what should the punishment be for those who refer to my red sauce as, “Ruby’s Red”.

Keep in touch. If you have photos of the last days of Rialto that you would like to share, send them my way.  Ciao, Rudy

We miss you already! We were going to stop by last night for our absolute favorite the Rudy’s Red but saw online that you were CLOSED! After denile then tears we sadly went to another italian restaurant but there were no meatballs and deff it was no Rialto. I live in NYC and every few months I come into Seattle and have the brucetta, Rudy’s red with meatballs, and the warm chocolate pudding cake! Please come back or at least come to New York!

Glad to hear you will be coming back! Got to keep the meatballs, and ravioli filled with cheese and greens. I vote yes on the beard!

  4. Carol Pattison says:

Are you going to open another Rialto somewhere else?

  5. Wow! What are we going to do!!!! Can’t wait til you find another location. The kids still call the restaurant Rudy’s so we would never call the sauce Ruby’s red;)

  6. S&T says:

Rats!!! My wife and I have been going to Rialto since it was on Greenlake and we were planning on going there tonight for our first anniversary. Too bad it’s gone. Hopefully not forever though.

  7. Mary Alice & Clark says:

We are so glad you are coming back. Our favorite dish is the pistachio chicken ravioli followed closely by the pumpkin squash ravioli. We never had a bad meal and anxiously await your grand opening.

Rudy!!! Argggh! I stopped by and was shocked and in horror that it was closed. I just told some other regulars and we’re all in mourning. I’m glad to read that you’re looking for another space. Hope Matt and Jess will still be around. The Rudy’s red with meatballs, your pesto, sausage have all got to stay…they’re my comfort food! The salad dressing has to stay. My friend wants to put a word in for the bolognese. Best, Quynh

Miss you already. We want the old Rialtos, small but menu that includes Alfredo sauce and Pasta Fresca. Hope you can still get the great staff you had. A take out place will not work for us, dining out is all part of the package. Not fancy but still a night out. Wish you the best of luck where ever you end up. Thanks for many years of good food…Jan and Peter PS Outside dining was also a great plus, but we realize it was very seasonal.

  10. Walter says:

I am eager for your return, and Ruddddddy’s Red. There’s nothing else like it in Seattle.

  11. Mark, Shannon & Ruby says:

We can’t believe you are closed! Hands down best plate of pasta in Seattle, you are severely missed. Our votes for favorite plates, pasta fresca, penne chicken dijon, penne with pork ragu and Ruby’s red. Hey, it’s our daughters name, she thought it was made just for her;) Good luck, keep us posted and we will track you down again.

Went to have dinner a few weeks ago and were so sad to find remodel rubble. Love the puttanesca. Miss the bruscetta. So bummed. Can’t wait for the next place.

  13. Nick says:

Come back soon! I need my Rudy’s red with meatballs fix! I also liked your Greenlake location better. The place just felt cozier and more homey than the Fremont location.

  14. Angela and Rob says:

We were so sad to see boards on the windows when we came to eat tonight. So happy to hear you are coming back. Will put in my votes on FB!!

I drove past 4307 last week and was stunned to see the signs announcing something new in your old location. When I told my wife later that day, she was devastated. We are both very happy to learn that you will be seeking a new location, not too far away, we hope. We have shared meals at Rialto as a couple and with extended family and friends. Of course we are fans of ruDy’s red; it is perfection, Zen Italiano. Wherever you go, may the wind always be at your back and the road rise up to meet you.

  16. Kristen Croft says:

I didn’t believe it when my husband said Rialto closed. He had to drive me by it to prove it to me, I was crushed when I saw it was true. I vowed to hunt you down for your eggplant parm recipe. My absolute favorite and believe me I am a harsh critic and have eaten all eggplant parm all around the country. So happy to hear you aren’t leaving us! So I cast my vote to keep the eggplant on the menu. Can’t wait to see you again!

  17. The k family says:

our family has gone to Rialto for eight years–we love the Bolognese and the Red. Our daughter was VERY disappointed she couldn’t get either.
Can’t get pudding cake anywhere like that. Please find a new place SOON!

  18. Robyn says:

What about the vacant spot in Ballard where lombardi’s used to be, and the now defunct 5 corner market? I cant live without your bolognese. It is absolutely the best in the city!!

  19. Tom Davis says:

What a suprise to hear you were born in Calabria ! Tha’s where my great grandparents are from. OK enough traveling…we need you & Rud’s Red back in Seattle. My wife and I have been having “Rialto Withdrawls”. My favorite is putenesca and Judy’s is anything else. We can’t go through a cold winter without R R with linguine & your great salad dressing.

We went to Rialto a month ago to celebrate my daughter’s last day of preschool and were saddened to see Rialto closed. Not only did you have good food, but the staff made it extra special. We celebrated all our special occassions at Rialto and tomorrow will be the first time that we don’t celebrate one of our birthdays there.

Our daughters love penne with alfredo and my husband LOVES the penne with pine nuts and feta cheese. I LOVE the salad dressing and the bread. I usually ate the meat specials since they were so good.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

  21. Cindy says:

Oh no! Don’t leave us again! I have already endured the departure from Green Lake. But now I hear you’re gone from Fremont as well! I was planning to go there for my birthday. Come back to Greenwood! Our favorites are the bruscetta, penne chicken dijon and penne with pork ragu. Can’t live without them!
